Pam’s Hiking & Train Trip

An experience your family will always remember! This 2-day trip has it all!

Hike or ride the train to our comfortable and well-equipped campground in the magnificent San Juan mountains, spend a cozy night under the stars, then ride the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Train the next day to take in the sites and history of Silverton.

We take care of everything so you can relax and enjoy the experience. Our friendly guides handle all the gear, set-up, delicious meals and snacks.

Itinerary

  • Come by MWR the night before the trip and confirm reservations
  • Everything is included, 3 meals, sleeping bags, tents etc.
  • Meet at Mountain Waters at 6:30 AM to load the train with camp gear and food
  • Shuttle to Purgatory trail head with your guide.
  • Hike into camp (3 – 5 hours) in the largest wilderness in the state of Colorado
  • Your guide will pack a lunch for you.
  • Unload the train on the way down from Silverton
  • Enjoy a great dinner at camp Needleton
  • Sleep under more stars than you know existed.
  • Wake up to a beautiful Colorado morning
  • Have a cowboy breakfast
  • At 11:00 am board the train for Silverton from Needleton.
  • Ride to Silverton have lunch on your own and ride the train back to Durango.

Cancellation Policy

We conform to the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad cancellation policy. Train ticket refunds/Cancellations are subject to a fee of $14.00 per adult ticket and $7.00 per child ticket if cancelled prior to 48 hours of your reserved date. There are no refunds issued on reservations cancelled less than 48 hours of your reserved date. We highly recommend purchasing trip insurance.

Trip Insurance

Many rafting adventure guests wish to be able to cancel at the last minute due to weather, illness, family emergency or changes in travel plans. Cancellation Insurance allows guests to receive a full refund no questions asked. The cost of the insurance is $9 per person for Raft & Rail.
